Posts Tagged ‘build from the ground up’

Recently I have been speaking to and hearing about more people who are starting companies or projects.  A few of them are talking about starting off with high price points and have some lofty goals…while this is all well and good and I certainly wish them the best of luck(and sell them a website), I have to say that businesses are more like marathons.  Anyone can sprint out of the gate, but if you haven’t put in the time and understanding around your market then you are bound to crash after a few miles.  Building stamina and growing organically will allow your new business to push through the tough miles and finish…hopefully on top!

All the companies that I have had the privilege of working with and on started around a kitchen table to become tops in their perspective industries: Pictage, liveBooks and emilieinc.  None of these started out on top…it took years of building, adjusting and growth to get to where they are today.  The best thing about growing organically is the solid foundation that is built for future growth.  So certainly start companies, projects and side shoots…but be aware of the 26.2 miles ahead of you!
