I am always excited and impressed by what I see in our industry. Technology has made it smaller and larger at the same time. We are able to better understand the insights of the top photographers and business persons with forums, blogs and websites. The industry is seeing one of the largest influxes of new photographers than ever before with digital having lowered the threshold of entry, exciting times!
I personally got my photography start in Lake Tahoe, California. While driving buses to support my ski habit, I found a company called Sharpshooter-Spectrum. You may have seen these mountain photographers standing at the top of ski lifts all over the country. I quickly decided that being on the hill all day making money was something that appealed to me. I was quite successful and was promoted to manager within the year. I managed winter operations at Northstar and Squaw Valley, then two summer operations on the Truckee River shooting rafters. My responsibilities included hiring, training, motivating and letting go 50 photographers a year.
The Lake Tahoe region became quite limiting after a few years and a move to LA followed. Within a couple weeks of being in LA I found a company called Pictage. I started at Pictage soon after that as an Account Executive and got to see a company develop into an industry leader. As we progressed at Pictage I became a Pro Consultant, consulting over a 1000 of the top studios through the years. I ended my relationship with Pictage as a Sales Team Lead in November of 2006.
While at Pictage I would see technologies that I thought could really influence the market. liveBooks was one of those! I was impressed with the way their websites functioned and the amazing ease of updating their websites. I started speaking with Matt their VP of Sales and was soon hired to become the Wedding Marketing and Development Manger for liveBooks. After 4.5 years with liveBooks I am now out on my own with www.tidecreative.com, a marketing and consulting company based in the wedding industry.
My passion’s include skiing, photography, spending time with my beautiful wife- Emilie and our son. Oh…did I mention poker, golf, surfing the net, surfing the ocean, traveling, watching Lost, and speaking about photography to different organizations.
