Ron Paul for President
Posted in Personal, tagged meet the press, president, republican candidate, ron paul, tim russet on December 28, 2007 | Leave a Comment »
Ron has raised over $19 Million for his run towards becoming president, that’s more than any other Republican candidate! He is for reducing government and upholding the constitution. I am an Independent and vote for the best person that is running…Ron is likely to get my vote.
Ron was recently on Meet the Press and although Tim Russet did a terrible job of trying to ambush Ron, I think he came away sounding more like someone that deserves my vote. This is a 4 part series that is worth watching.

I have been waiting for this time of the year, when everyone puts up their favorite images of the past season…makes it easier for me to choose an IOTD. The first person to get his up is my friend Eric Laurits. We have recently been blessed to be able to spend time with and get to know :e:. He is a quality guy and a terrific photographer! Today’s image is all about emotion and I am sure this was a special grab for his clients.
Eric’s assistant Tung put together an amazing gift for him this year…a book covering :e: shooting five weddings! Really cool!
Please let me know if you see any other Top Images of the year on photographer’s blogs.

Terrific father/daughter dance with a Christmas tree in the background. Shelby Leigh showed great attention to detail by making sure to pull the holiday scene into this image.

Jet Blue

I have been traveling on Jet Blue for the past two years and have to say that they have it going on! When I get on another airline now…it feels cramped and sub-par. They have satellite tv’s for each passenger, which really makes the time go by a lot faster on those cross country trips! They have had their issues…which airline hasn’t, but they are always ready to correct it in a manner that I feel good about. They have a new passenger manifesto that definitely favors us who fly with them.

Anyway…they have a pretty cool deal right now, where if you sign up for their AMEX card you get 50 True Blue points. At 100 you get a free flight! You earn points quickly with each flight and purchase on the card. I use mine to pay for everything and it really adds up fast. So you can earn a free flight…then use it to go to Aruba or anywhere they fly!
The deal is if I recommend 5 people who sign up for the card…I get a free flight, so YES there is something in it for me. I figure if you are looking for a great airline and a new AMEX…well then we are all winners here

OH…let me know if you take advantage of this killer offer!

It’s a Small World!
Posted in Inspiration, Marketing, tagged j sandifer, jerry yoon, small world, wedding photography story on December 20, 2007 | 1 Comment »
Tonight I was checking out Jerry Yoon’s blog and came across my name and a cool story that proves how small this big world we live in really is…
“When Iris found out about my photography, it was one of those, ‘wow, it’s a small world’ type moments. Iris and I are old middle school friends from way back in the day. It’s been a while since we’ve actually seen each other, much less known what the other person has been up to in recent years.
One day Iris went to her friend’s place, and her friend was looking at the blog of her wedding photographer, J Sandifer Photography. J Sandifer put up one of my images as his image of the day and Iris’s friend quickly read my name out loud. Iris vaguely recognized the name, but didn’t go over to see if it was actually her old middle school friend. Later that night, she went home and, being curious, googled my name. Much to her delight, the ‘Jerry Yoon’ she heard was her old friend, who had now become a wedding photographer! Fortunately, she happened to be looking for a wedding photographer for her wedding in March.
I was so excited when she emailed me that first time, because I was also flabbergasted at how she found out about me in such a random way. Well, we had a great time catching up and I’m sure we’ll be much better at keeping in touch now that we’ll be shooting their wedding. What a sweet way to reconnect with an old friend! And thanks J for putting up one of my images on your blog, without which Iris and I would probably not have reconnected for another 13 years! “
Cool image from Jerry’s post.
How cool that something as simple as me posting Jerry’s image brought two old friends together again and apparently opened a new referral network for his business! After they see the images he takes for them…they will certainly refer him to other friends and family. I met Jerry at the PartnerCon in LA last year, so make sure to network at photography conferences…you never know where the next lead will be coming from
Here’s the post that started it all! http://jbrides.wordpress.com/2007/09/25/image-of-the-day-75/

There are many characters at weddings, today’s image of the day comes from James & Meridith Walter’s blog. They caught this character(looks like the dad in this case) lightening up the mood of the day…looks like a great day for the B&G!

I frequently blog about the need for music to be purchased legally for use on our photography sites. Wedding photographers seem to be particularly guilty of this, I’m not sure why? I think it has something to do with how we value our work or not value our work enough…because if we valued our work as artists, we wouldn’t be using someone else’s art to promote ours.
Recently a band called Richter Scales did a parody on what is going on in Silicon Valley. They used an image of Lane Hartwell’s in the video they made and posted it on YouTube. Lane has taken offense to not getting credit for the image and this has stirred quite the controversy in some photography circles. TechCrunch has taken the position that Lane is taking offense because her feelings were hurt that she was not included in the credits(which didn’t credit anyone really). A Photo Editor has slashed back at TechCrunch and says that they are part of the reason for the deteriorating rights of artists.
Truthfully I am not sure where I stand on this one…I mean the photographer caught the image paparatzi style and I doubt that she has written permission to use the image and certainly wasn’t paid to make it for the ceo. Then I do see where she has some concern with her work being used without permission or credit…this should not have happened. Either way it has stirred up some conversation, brought attention to both the photographer and band, and forced a renewed dialogue into rights of artists.
Check here for a downloadable flyer on photographer’s rights put together by Bert P Krages.
